Caring for Your Tulips

Our best advice for getting the maximum enjoyment out of your tulip bouquet

Vase Selection

Select a vase that covers half the height of the tulip stems. They can stretch up to 4 inches as they mature

Stem and Leaf Prep

Remove any leaves that will touch the water and cut fresh ends at 45 degree angle for best water intake

Thirsty Flowers

Fill vase half way with fresh, cool water ensuring no leaves are touching the water. Tulips are thirsty, you may need to top up their water daily.

Keep ‘em Cool

Place your vase of tulips out of direct sunlight and away from any heat sources. Heat and sun accelerate aging.

Clean Vase is Key

For best results, clean the vase with hot soapy water every other day for best results! Bacteria is the enemy of fresh flowers.

Days of Enjoyment

With proper care, we fully anticipate your vase of tulips to last 7-10 days, if not longer!

The Tulip Ballet

Local specialty tulips are unlike any conventional grocery store tulip you’ve experienced. Our tulips are much younger than imported flowers and their flower heads are much larger. Not only will you enjoy a longer vase life, you’ll be treated to the Tulip Ballet.

As they age, our tulips will dip, arch, bow, and stretch in their vase - much like a graceful dancer. Throughout the day you will notice the stems bending and curving, oftentimes to such an extent you may worry they are wilting. This is entirely natural and the joy of local specialty tulips.

Their dramatic performance can be a little alarming for first timers. If you’d prefer a more contained look, we suggest using a vase with high walls and/or trimming down their stems to provide more stem support.

We hope you sit back and relax enjoy the show! These winter tulips are a labor of love for our farm and we hope you enjoy some flower magic to brighten these long dark winter days.
